On Saturday, December 3, 2011, a West Hartford tradition kicks off with a special evening session of Gingerbread Day. Gingerbread Day is an annual event which allows kids and adults alike to construct a homemade creation from fresh gingerbread, icing, and delicious candies. The excitement continues on Sunday, December 4 with two more sessions.
Local baker and entrepreneur Christine Brooks, owner of Sweet Domestics and creator of the Spicebrook Forest Gingerbread House kit, will lead the workshops. She will give tips and advice on building a gingerbread house and demonstrate decorating ideas.

Brooks is a West Hartford resident who created the kit in 2006 to share her passion for gingerbread houses. She says that her friends and family have come together for the past 20 years to create gingerbread houses. It was such a large part of her life that she says she "created the cookie cutter kit in 2006 to share the fun of our party tradition. Gingerbread House parties are a great way to bring people together any time of year."

Noah's Discovery Learning Space will be open throughout the day. The Discovery Space includes an archaeological dig, colonial kitchen "try-its", and information about Noah Webster's childhood. Parents and children will be able to learn, play, and try these activities after they have completed their gingerbread house. Regular museum admission applies for historic house tours.

Registration is required for each of the four sessions. Times include 10 a.m., 1 p.m., and 3 p.m. on Saturday, December 3, and 1 p.m., and 3 p.m. on Sunday, December 4. The workshop fee is $18 per house ($15 for museum members); instruction and materials are included. Visit www.NoahWebsterHouse.org to register, or call 860-521-5362 x21. Space is limited. A maximum of two people may work on each house kit.

Spicebrook Gingerbread House kits and accessories will be available for sale in the Museum Gift Shop through the holidays. Visit www.SweetDomestics.com for the full line of products.
